
Underwater Cultural Heritage: From Research to Protection
Description
The course will give an introduction to Underwater Cultural Heritage, focusing on fundamental concepts associated with the protection of underwater cultural heritage and underwater archaeological research.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
– Reflect on the concept of Underwater Cultural Heritage and on the different types of heritage associated with the aquatic environment;
– Know the objectives and principles of the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage (2001);
– Recognize the methods and techniques used in underwater archeology;
– Discuss strategies for the protection, safeguarding and enhancement of underwater archaeological sites, exploring case studies;
– Know and explore the results of national and international projects on the protection and enhancement of underwater cultural heritage.
The course is structured in general theoretical classes that will be interspersed with practical sessions, carried out using computer, in the classroom.
