Policy making in the European Union in Times of Crisis

Description

The focus area of this Summer school will be policy making in the European Union (EU)  in times of crisis, touching on policy discussions related to refuge crisis and  pandemics.

This summer program seeks to attract undergraduate, post graduate students and  young professionals from various nationalities with diversified academic background  who wish to broaden their knowledge of the European decision-making process,  especially in times of crisis. This should also provide participants with an understanding of political and  legal frameworks that have shaped Europe’s responses to crisis.

The first day of the  course will focus on the main EU institutions. During the second day students will learn  more about the decision-making procedures at the European level. The third day will examine the strengths and weaknesses of the EU under the light of the refugee crisis  and the pandemic crisis responses.
This summer program is a challenging and truly interactive study experience  (virtual visits to the EU institutions, simulation game, learning how to navigate through the official website of the European Union: official documents; reports,  studies; statistics and opinion polls).

Admission criteria are mainly based on academic achievements and motivation for  participating in the program.

It is an unique educational offer that will take place in a stimulating, historical and  motivating academic environment. An unique opportunity to acquire new knowledge  and meet colleagues from all over Portugal and around the world.
