Molecular Approaches in Conservation Ecology
Description
This summer course will focus on advances in the molecular approaches that are used in Ecology and Conservation Biology. These advanced methodological approaches associated with the traditional methodologies allow to investigate complex functional processes in response to aquatic and terrestrial habitat conditions. This course will be focused specifically in fundamental concepts in “Molecular Biology”, “Phylogeny” and “Metabarcoding” of the aquatic or terrestrial communities, through:
– Introduction to “Molecular Biology” and fundamental concepts of “Phylogenetics”
– Introduction to “Metastudies”: DNA Metabarcoding of communities (example: 18S and 16S rRNA for species identification i.e. in microbiome and in intertidal communities.
