MultiOmics for Beginners: Exploring Big Data
Description
Are you interested in learning about analysis of big data sets? This summer course welcomes undergraduate students, PhD students and researchers willing to learn the basic principles of the analysis of output data from different ‘Omic’ technologies – Genomics, Metagenomics, Transcriptomics and Metabolomics. During this 5-day course you will be introduced to how MultiOmics works, including the presentation of invited experts and their case-studies. This short course (20 hours) will cover the following topics:
1. Let’s start – Basics and Phylogenetics- Brief introduction to the basic concepts related to the “omics”; Who is who in my samples? Basics in phylogeny; Tools for creating Phylogenetic trees.
2. Microbial metagenomics – Approaches, applications and data analysis.
3. Genomes – Introduction to Microbial Genomes, Sequencing tools and data analysis.
4. Transcriptomes- Introduction and applications in eukaryotic transcriptomes; differential gene expression analysis
5. Metabolomics – Metabolite extraction, identification and quantification through chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, data treatment and presentation.
